Patterns

Hard not to be more than a little surprised by voting patterns in 2016, both here in the UK and now in the USA.  I've just woken up to the Big News - President Elect Trump.  It's going to be an interesting few years.

Portrush - the old clock tower by the railway station just visible in the middle.  The 'piazza' got a make-over a couple of years ago and a pretty decent job was done, I have to say - lots of interesting lines and funky lights.  The sort of place you can walk around looking for some interesting patterns, if the light is right.  Which I will hopefully do, one day.

  1. I realize this morning how disconnected I must be from the average American, because I did not at all see this happening. I thought surely Hillary would win, perhaps in a squeaker, but she would win.

I accept that a lot of America feels like it's gotten the shaft. They find life to be economically harder and harder as an elite gets richer and richer. They have watched a predominantly white middle-class majority shrink, not just because of immigration but because so many have moved downward into the lower classes. And they're angry.

But to elect someone so patently unfit for the job? I badly underestimated just how angry.

    1. Like Brexit, it can be seen as a vote for change. Whether or not Brexit and Trump can bring the changes people want, only time will tell.

I wonder what would have happened had it been Trump vs Sanders?

  2. I must say it's very hard not to be a bit more than a little surprised for sure, Michael. Anger, as Jim mention above, is also a form of energy and can be a dangerous one if not canalized the right way.
It's going to be an interesting time ahead, for sure, but I guess we just have to cope with whatever happens. Like we usually do.
